The Chance to be Honest

How would you feel if you were cheated by a friend or much more by your lover? Probably you’ll be furious and even end such relationship. Nobody felt any better knowing he has been betrayed, lied to and manipulated by stories which are purely made up of lies.

If you are a teacher, how would you feel after discovering that one of your students cheated in class? Or knowing that your town official got the position after buying votes and cheating his way up to his office? Surely, not a single trust or worse, your respect, be given to that person.

Being honest is considered an important factor in preserving any relationship. Honesty upholds truth, with truth comes trust, and with trust develops the integrity of an individual to be a reliable person and an inspiration to others. Couples who are truthful to one another survived the test of their relationship since they do not try to deceive either of them by actions founded on lies and dishonesty.

Being honest may be manifested through various ways such as the following:

·         Refraining from cheating during exams

·         Not taking things which are not yours

·         Telling the truth even if it hurts you or others

·         Remaining faithful and loyal to your spouse

·         Standing firm in your morally correct views despite the criticisms

·         Not allowing others to use you as their instrument to deceive other people

·         Refraining from corruption by a political leader

·         Asserting things which are only honest and just

·         Fulfilling your promise

·         Admitting your mistake

·         Keeping a friend’s secret

·         Returning something which you have found

Many have witnessed and affirmed the possessed honesty of the children. If you want an honest opinion of yourself, go find a child and hear the truth directly from his mouth. Is it not ironic learning how to become an honest person from the innocent children? The funny thing is the kids are taught a lot of things by adults but what the reality is that the child learns from you. A simple act of kindness, sizeable amount of patience, a big doze of honesty and house filled with love makes a better child.

Here are some benefits for being honest:

·         Having a clean conscience allows you to live more peacefully and happily

·         Getting away from conflicts, misunderstandings or arguments

·         Gaining the people’s trust around you, thereby acquiring more friends

·         Less worries from inventing stories

·         Protects you from being caught or getting into trouble (such as committing crimes)

·         Becoming popular in your community as someone reliable

The chance to be known for honesty pays off your effort for becoming one. You can even encourage others to be more truthful in their lives. Saying compliments for somebody’s honest act is a great start. Being an unassuming critic in the characters of others will help them realize to strive for the better. Doing community service showing the value of honesty, such as posting signs about the virtue, telling stories of honesty at day care centers or sharing your experience on how being honest helped you, will also give some inspiration to other people to strive to become honest.
